At the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh managed to post a big total with the bat but lost control with the ball to end the day on the back foot. Following the second day of the first Test against Pakistan, assistant coach Mohammad Salahuddin said the momentum shifted towards the visitors due to Bangladesh’s lack of discipline in bowling.
Explaining his assessment of the bowling plans and the demands of Test cricket, Salahuddin highlighted both the missed opportunity of adding more runs and the shortcomings in execution with the ball. In this regard, he said:
“I think even after crossing 400 runs, it would have been better if we could have added another 50 runs. Today we bowled in a very scattered way. In Test cricket, to create pressure, you need to maintain proper line and length. Since this is Test cricket, we have the opportunity to analyze where we should bowl to put batters under more pressure.”
He further emphasized that Bangladesh’s poor bowling allowed Pakistan to score freely and settle into their innings.
‘Many times, bad deliveries make batting very easy. Today we bowled somewhat erratically, which allowed runs to come quickly. If we had bowled in the right channel, Pakistan might not have scored so easily.’
Salahuddin remains hopeful about Bangladesh’s pace attack and believes there is still an opportunity to turn the match around by taking quick wickets with proper execution.
‘There is still a lot for the bowlers to do on this wicket, especially the fast bowlers. Today we did not bowl well in one session. Everyone understands that we did not perform well. But a comeback is possible, and it needs to happen quickly. Our pacers have always won matches; they are experienced. I believe they will do well. If the fast bowlers perform, there is a chance to take wickets quickly.’
