The controversy surrounding the recent Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) election has reached a decisive stage. Following findings of serious irregularities in the investigation report, the National Sports Council has decided to dissolve the current board and form a new ad-hoc committee.
According to the investigation committee’s findings, former adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan was directly involved in influencing the election process. The report states that pressure was applied on voters to support specific candidates.
Before announcing the new committee, National Sports Council Deputy Secretary (Sports) Aminul Ehsan explained the findings in detail, saying, “The investigation committee has found evidence of interference by Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan. He pressured voters to vote for his preferred candidates. At the Sheraton Hotel, Asif Mahmud and Sakhawat Hossain influenced voters to cast their votes in favor of chosen candidates.”
The report, which was submitted to the National Sports Council two days ago, also revealed multiple irregularities. Based on these findings, the council decided to dissolve the existing board.
At the same time, allegations of bias were also raised against outgoing BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul. Explaining this, the official said, “Evidence has also been found that Aminul Islam Bulbul, as a, gained advantage by nominating 10 cricketers. The committee considers this election incomplete and full of irregularities.”
The irregularities in the election process have also been reported to the International Cricket Council (ICC), confirmed Aminul Ehsan. Expressing hope for approval of the new committee, he said, “We have sent this investigation report to the ICC. We hope they will consider the violations in the election process and approve the new committee.”
