BCB Building New Tigers Den Lounge for National Cricketers at Mirpur

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is constructing a dedicated cricketers’ lounge, named ‘Tigers’ Den’, for current and former national team players at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. The facility is nearly complete and is expected to be officially inaugurated soon.

On Tuesday, BCB President Tamim Iqbal gave members of the media a tour of the new lounge following a press briefing. Located inside the board’s new headquarters, the facility has been designed to accommodate around 350 cricketers who have represented Bangladesh’s men’s or women’s national team in at least one international match. Built with a modern architectural design, the lounge offers more premium facilities than the board’s regular lounges.

In addition to the lounge, the BCB is introducing special arrangements for national cricketers at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. A designated section of the VIP gallery will be reserved for them on match days, while a separate entry point through Gate No. 4 on the south side of the stadium will also be available.

Explaining the purpose of the initiative, Tamim said, “Today we had a small media interaction, and I wanted everyone to see this place. As we mentioned before, we have created a lounge called the ‘Tigers’ Den’ for cricketers. It will serve as a space for everyone who has represented Bangladesh in the men’s or women’s national team, even if it was for just one day. On match days, they can watch the game from here, and on other days, they can come during office hours and spend time. This facility has been created especially for them.”

Tamim said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the bond between the Bangladesh Cricket Board and both current and former national cricketers. He said, “I have said before that all our current and former cricketers should feel that Bangladesh cricket belongs to them. To create that sense of belonging, the Bangladesh Cricket Board will gradually take all the necessary initiatives, Inshallah. In my opinion, something like this should have been introduced for national cricketers a long time ago. We have had a ‘Captains’ Box’ for many years, but there was no similar arrangement for other cricketers. This is a small initiative from my side.”

The lounge, however, will not be inaugurated immediately, as some work is still pending. It will also feature memorabilia celebrating some of the most significant achievements in Bangladesh’s cricket history.
