In a move to usher in a new era of recognition and respect in the country’s cricket, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has introduced an innovative initiative. Newly appointed president Tamim Iqbal has launched the ‘Captains Card’ to further strengthen the status of former national team captains.

Through this initiative, the BCB aims to provide a range of benefits for those who have led Bangladesh in international cricket. However, a notable reality has also emerged surrounding the event—despite receiving invitations, most former captains were unable to attend.

To implement this initiative, Tamim personally contacted several former captains. He even called Aminul Islam Bulbul, who was recently at the center of administrative changes within the board.

Highlighting his communication efforts, Tamim said, “I called Bulbul bhai to invite him for the Captains Card, but I couldn’t speak to him. I called Shakib, we spoke, but he couldn’t come as he is abroad. I spoke with Mash bhai as well. He conveyed his best wishes. Pilot bhai and Faruk bhai couldn’t attend due to their busy schedules.”

The board president also assured that those who were absent would not be left out. He emphasized that the recognition would reach everyone.

Speaking about those who could not attend, Tamim said, “I couldn’t speak to Durjoy bhai. I spoke with his wife. She conveyed her best wishes. Those who are here can collect their cards today. Those who are not present will have their cards delivered to their homes. Those who are abroad will receive their cards when they return.”

Previously, former captains received separate tickets to watch matches, but the arrangement remained quite standard. The new ‘Captains Card’ is set to change that, allowing them to enter stadiums with greater respect and exclusive privileges.

This benefit will not be limited to a particular series. It will apply to all matches organized by the BCB at any venue across the country. Even those who have led Bangladesh in just one match will be eligible for this card.

According to a BCB press release, “A special edition privilege card will be handed over to the male and female cricketers who have proudly led the Bangladesh national team, by BCB president Tamim Iqbal Khan.”
