Nigar Sultana Penalized for Breaching Code of Conduct
As the sting of a whitewash continues to weigh heavily on the Bangladesh women’s team, captain Nigar Sultana has now found herself at the center of a fresh controversy. Amid the frustration of a series full of defeats, she has been handed a penalty for breaching the code of conduct following the T20I series against Sri Lanka.
The incident took place during the third T20I, when Nigar failed to control her emotions while walking back to the pavilion after being dismissed. Just before leaving the field, she threw her bat in frustration—an act that did not go unnoticed by the match officials. While it reflected the intensity of the moment and personal disappointment, it was deemed a clear violation under the rules.
Following the match, an official charge was brought against her by ICC International Panel member Supriya Rani Das. Nigar did not contest the allegation and instead admitted her mistake, which expedited the disciplinary process.
The sanction was imposed for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct, which relates to the misuse of cricket equipment or ground fixtures. Since this was her first offense within a 24-month period, the punishment remained relatively lenient.
As a result, one demerit point has been added to her disciplinary record, while she avoided any financial fine and received only a formal reprimand. However, the warning is clear—accumulating four demerit points will lead to a suspension for the Bangladesh captain.
