Tamim Iqbal Announces He Will Participate in BCB Elections

Tamim Iqbal, newly appointed president of the 11-member ad hoc committee, a former captain of Bangladesh and with 16 years of international cricket experience, opened the press conference by sharing his perspective.

As the new head, he stated, “Of course, we will hold an election. You need to ask me personally. I may want to participate, I (gesturing to the person on my left) may want to participate, he (gesturing to the person on my right) may not want to. When there is a free and fair election… it’s not just us, everyone who is interested, we will request them to take part.”

He further added, “There will be a board election. Everyone involved—the board’s cricketers, organizers—should participate. We want to ensure a proper election is conducted, and we will create an environment where everyone can come and take part.”

Tamim’s statement comes in the context of the previous BCB election, which he had also intended to contest but withdrew from amid allegations of government interference and other irregularities. After winning that election, Aminul Islam Bulbul became the president. Following political changes in the country, the National Sports Council formed a special committee to investigate irregularities in that election. Based on their observations, the board was dissolved, and Tamim was appointed head of an 11-member ad hoc committee.

As the new committee head, his responsibilities include managing the board’s regular operations and organizing the election within three months.
