At just 15 years old, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has made history in Twenty20 cricket. He is now the youngest player ever and the fastest in terms of balls faced to reach 1,000 runs in the format.

He achieved the milestone on Saturday in the IPL, smashing a 36-ball century. Suryavanshi reached 1,000 T20 runs in just 473 balls. The previous record was held by Australia’s Mitchell Owen, who took 533 balls to get there.

In his explosive innings, Suryavanshi hit 12 sixes and 5 fours. It was his second century in the IPL. The knock is now the third-fastest century in IPL history, after Chris Gayle’s 30-ball hundred in 2013 and Suryavanshi’s own 35-ball century last year.

After the match, Suryavanshi said, “There wasn’t much thinking. I just played according to the ball. The wicket felt good, so I backed my game. I think about the opposition bowlers and what shots I can play against them—I try to visualise all of that.”

Although he is yet to make his debut for the Indian national team, the teenager has been in outstanding form this IPL season. Earlier, he scored two 15-ball fifties against Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

In this match, Suryavanshi scored 103 off 37 balls, helping Rajasthan post 228/6. However, Hyderabad chased down the target with 9 balls to spare. Ishan Kishan (74) and Abhishek Sharma (57) played key roles in the win.

On the points table, Hyderabad and Rajasthan are level with 10 points each. They are four points ahead of fifth-placed Chennai in the race for the playoffs. In the day’s other match, Punjab Kings climbed to the top with 13 points after successfully chasing 265 against Delhi.
