BCB Surrounded by Investigation and Controversy, Aminul Refuses to Step Down
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Aminul Islam has firmly stated his intention to remain in his position despite the ongoing turmoil within the board. The situation intensified after a committee formed to investigate allegations of malpractice and abuse of power in last year’s October elections submitted its report to the government.
The country’s Ministry of Sports has increased pressure on the BCB, raising questions about the validity of the most recent board election, Bangladesh’s absence from this year’s T20 World Cup, and allegations of political interference and favoritism within the board. In the past two days, four directors have resigned, bringing the total number of resignations since January to six.
Despite the circumstances, Aminul Islam has given no indication of stepping down. In a television interview on Saturday, he said, “I will sit in my chair. I will be the last person to leave. I have a good, dedicated, and honest team at the BCB. I want to serve Bangladesh cricket with this team.”
Referring to his experience, he added, “I was the only Bangladeshi to work in the ICC. I am not claiming to be anything big, but I am here because of my experience. I left everything to serve my country. If this is no longer mine, I will look for another path, but I want to remain by my country’s side.”
Regarding not facing the election investigation committee in person, Aminul explained that scheduling conflicts prevented him from attending, and he submitted a written response. He asserted that his involvement in the elections was limited.
He said, “I was not involved in any malpractice during the elections. I was only involved in one area, which is currently under investigation. According to our constitution, names of councillors should come from the district sports organizations’ ad-hoc committees. But when only three names were submitted, we had to write again asking them to send names from within their ad-hoc committees. That was my only involvement.”
It is worth noting that Aminul Islam became BCB president in May 2025 as a government-endorsed director. He was later formally elected as board president in the October elections. Former captain Tamim Iqbal withdrew from the race at that time, alleging malpractice and abuse of power by Aminul during the election process.
