Cummins Leaves Camp Midway Through IPL, Set to Return After Final Scan in April
During the ongoing IPL, Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins has temporarily left the team camp and returned to his home country, Australia. The trip is aimed at undergoing a scheduled final scan to assess his back injury, which will be conducted under the supervision of Cricket Australia.
Cummins departed for Australia from Kolkata following the team’s most recent match. However, this is not a sudden decision; rather, it is part of his planned rehabilitation process. If everything goes as expected, the Australian pacer is likely to rejoin the squad after April 17.
Prior to the start of the IPL, Cummins had indicated that although he would miss the early phase of the tournament, he aimed to return to action around the middle stages. Accordingly, this precaution is being taken to ensure full fitness for the second half of the league and the potential playoffs.
In Cummins’ absence, Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is leading the team. The overseas pace attack has so far been handled by Eshan Malinga and David Payne.
Cummins first experienced back issues in July last year and has been out of action for an extended period since then. His only competitive appearance came in December, when he played a Test match in the Ashes series. Although he had hoped to return during the T20 World Cup, a minor setback ultimately ruled him out.
Overall, Cummins’ primary goal now is to regain full fitness and return to the team during the crucial stages of the IPL.
