A brilliant innings from Sharmin Akhter, combined with a disciplined bowling performance, helped Bangladesh Women defeat Sri Lanka Women by 3 wickets to start the ODI series on a winning note. Chasing a target of 206 in Rajshahi, the hosts reached 206/7 in 48.3 overs to seal the victory.

 

Earlier, Sri Lanka opted to bat first after winning the toss and posted 205/9 in their allotted 50 overs. Hansima Karunaratne top-scored with 54, while Imesha Dulani contributed 52, playing key roles in setting up the total.

 

Among the Bangladesh bowlers, Ritu Moni was the standout performer, claiming 3 wickets for 36 runs in 9 overs. Marufa Akter picked up 2 wickets, while Nahida Akter, Fahima Khatun, and Sultana Khatun took one wicket each.

 

In response, Bangladesh faced early pressure in the chase. However, Sharmin Akhter steadied the innings with a superb knock of 86, laying the foundation for the win. She was well supported by Sobhana Mostary, who scored 41 before retiring hurt due to illness.

 

Despite losing a few quick wickets in the middle, Ritu Moni, Fahima Khatun, and Nahida Akter held their nerves to guide the team home.

 

For her outstanding performance, Sharmin Akhter was named Player of the Match. With this win, Bangladesh Women take an early lead in the series and move forward with confidence.
