Virat Kohli Criticizes Cricket Broadcasts, Calls for Focus on the Game, Not Personal Lives

Indian cricket star Virat Kohli recently sparked criticism regarding the way cricket matches are broadcast. He expressed his dissatisfaction with broadcasters discussing his personal life or food preferences during games, suggesting that cricket-related discussions should take precedence instead.

Speaking at the Royal Challengers Bangalore Innovation Lab Indian Sports Summit, Kohli said, "Broadcast shows should focus on the game of cricket, not about my lunch yesterday or my favorite chole bhature spot in Delhi. Such topics should not be discussed during a cricket match. Instead, the conversation should revolve around how an athlete is playing cricket."

He further added, "Athletes' stories should be highlighted, not their personal lives." Kohli emphasized that building India as a sports-forward nation is a collective responsibility. It is not just about infrastructure or financial investment but also about creating awareness among the viewers.

Kohli also spoke about the prospect of India winning its first Olympic gold medal. He stated, "The IPL and global T20 leagues have played a significant role. Winning an Olympic gold would be a huge achievement, and we are very close to that."

Regarding retirement plans, Kohli mentioned, "It all depends on my love for the game, the joy I find in it, and my competitive spirit. As long as that remains, I will continue playing. I'm not playing for any achievements."

However, the 36-year-old Kohli acknowledged that he may not get another opportunity to play in Australia’s tournaments. While he is cautious about his career, his passion for the game remains strong.
