Shan Masood prefers reality over revenge against Bangladesh
Two years ago, Bangladesh created a historic achievement on Pakistan soil. Their 2–0 whitewash over the hosts in Rawalpindi remains a frequent talking point in discussions around both teams. Now, with Pakistan touring Bangladesh for a Test series, the conversation has naturally shifted towards the idea of “revenge”.
Speaking at the pre-series press conference on Thursday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, Pakistan captain Shan Masood addressed the topic. His stance on the idea of revenge for past defeats was clear.
He said,
“We don’t use the word revenge from our side. The Bangladesh team deserves credit for the way they prepared and played in 2024. Even when we were in a strong position—when they were 26 for 6—they showed the skill and ability to fight back and win the Test match.”
Pakistan’s performance in the World Test Championship has also been under discussion in recent times. In all three completed cycles so far, they have failed to finish in the top five of the points table. The last cycle also ended with them at the bottom. Meanwhile, on the same day, fast bowler Shaheen Afridi stated that Pakistan are not only focusing on the Bangladesh series but are also aiming for the World Test Championship final.
However, captain Shan Masood is not looking too far ahead.
Explaining the team’s approach, he said,
“The most important thing is to stay in the present and respect the situation. We are playing against Bangladesh, which is both a challenge and an opportunity. We cannot look too far ahead; we have to take it step by step. Every team dreams of reaching the final and winning trophies, but right now our full focus is on the Bangladesh series.”
