Shakib Becomes the First Cricketer to Reach 50 Wickets in T20 World Cup
In 2007, during a match against the West Indies, Bangladesh made its debut in the T20 World Cup. Shakib Al Hasan, though scoring only 13 runs with the bat, was the most successful bowler for Bangladesh, taking 4 wickets for 34 runs. Today, Shakib has reached the milestone of 50 wickets in the T20 World Cup.
He holds the record for the most wickets in T20 World Cup history. Ahead of the current T20 World Cup, it was reported that Shakib needed just 3 more wickets to reach the fifty-wicket milestone. In Bangladesh's five matches so far in this World Cup, Shakib has taken only two wickets in a single match. In the last match against Australia, he didn’t bowl at all, prolonging his wait.
Today, facing India in the Super Eights, Shakib reached the milestone. He needed just 1 wicket to make history, and by catching Rohit Sharma, Shakib entered the record books. No bowler in the world had achieved this feat before. Shakib of Bangladesh became the first bowler to take 50 wickets in the T20 World Cup.
Before the match against India, the left-arm spinner had taken 49 wickets in 41 matches at an average of 19.38.
