Mohammedan set to begin DPL with title ambitions
Mohammedan Sporting Club are ready to begin their new season with strong intent as they take the field on the opening day of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL). The traditional powerhouse start their campaign with a clear objective—staying firmly in the race for the championship from the very beginning.
On the opening day, Mohammedan will face City Club. Ahead of the tournament, the club has built a strong squad featuring several national team cricketers. The side includes Towhid Hridoy, Enamul Haque Bijoy, Parvez Hossain Emon, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, Nayeem Ahmed, Tanvir Islam, Rishad Hossain, Ripon Mondol, and Afif Hossain Dhrubo. With this balanced and experienced lineup, they are targeting nothing less than the title.
One of the key figures in the batting unit is Towhid Hridoy, who recently impressed in the series against New Zealand. The batter has made it clear that he is flexible regarding his batting position and is ready to bat at number three if the team requires it.
He said,
“I mean, it doesn’t really matter what I want regarding batting at number three. It is the team’s requirement. If the team expects or the management thinks that I can go in at that position and contribute better for the team’s benefit, then I am ready to play anywhere according to the team’s decision.”
Hridoy also expressed confidence in the team’s overall goals, stating that while the ultimate aim is to become champions, the focus must remain on process and consistent performance.
He said,
“Obviously, a champion team will always have high expectations, and we have them too. But at the end of the day, we have to perform. We need to perform according to the process and based on our individual potential. We also have to perform according to the team’s demands. Of course, we want results, but we will try to achieve as much as possible by following the process.”
Speaking further to the media, he added that consistent performance in domestic tournaments such as the DPL and BPL is the pathway to national selection. He emphasized that players should earn their place in the national team through performance and should also get enough opportunities to showcase their ability at that level.
He said,
“There is the DPL, the Premier League, the BPLthese domestic tournaments. If someone performs well in these competitions, they will definitely get into the national team. And we also want that whoever comes into the national team should come through performance, and once there, they should get enough opportunities to show their performance.”
