Mohammad Nawaz under investigation as PCB launches probe into alleged doping test issue

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has launched an investigation into Pakistan all-rounder Mohammad Nawaz following allegations related to a doping test. According to reports, a sample tested positive for recreational drug use.

A PCB spokesperson said that the matter was formally communicated by the International Cricket Council (ICC), and the board has initiated the necessary process. The PCB will inform the ICC of the outcome once the investigation is completed.

According to Dawn, the PCB will also share Nawaz’s medical and related information with the ICC after the inquiry concludes. However, during the ongoing investigation, he will continue to represent the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League.

Reports suggest that the positive result came from a sample taken during this year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. In that tournament, Nawaz played seven matches, scoring 15 runs and taking seven wickets, while Pakistan were eliminated at the Super Eight stage.

The development has also impacted his county cricket plans in England. His proposed deal to play for Surrey in the T20 Blast did not go ahead, despite having previously received a No Objection Certificate from the PCB.

Surrey County Cricket Club has not commented on the matter, according to reports.

The matter remains under investigation, and a final decision will be taken after the PCB completes its due process.
