Josh Inglis named white-ball captain against Pakistan
Josh Inglis has been named captain for Australia’s third ODI and T20 series against Pakistan. Initially, Australia announced their squad without a captain, as key senior players like Pat Cummins, Steven Smith, Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Marnus Labuschagne are prioritizing the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy and will not participate in the T20 series.
Inglis will become Australia's 30th ODI and 14th T20 captain. The selection of Inglis surprised some, as it was previously speculated that Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa, Aaron Hardie, or Matthew Short might assume the role. Inglis brings leadership experience from his previous role as vice-captain of Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League and Prime Minister’s XI.
Chief Selector George Bailey said, "Josh is an integral part of our white-ball setup and commands great respect on and off the field. He will have the support of senior players like Matthew Short, Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, and Marcus Stoinis."
With the ODI and T20 leadership on Inglis’s shoulders, Australia has also bolstered the squad by adding pacers Spencer Johnson and Xavier Bartlett to fill in for the resting players.
