Government Allows Spectators for PSL Final

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has approved spectator attendance for the final of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The development was confirmed on Saturday by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.

In a post on social media platform X, Naqvi said he had requested the prime minister to allow spectators for the final. Although there was initial hesitation due to the government’s austerity measures aimed at conserving fuel, the prime minister ultimately agreed following requests from franchise owners.

Naqvi expressed his gratitude to the premier, saying that opening the stadium gates to fans would make the final more vibrant and lively.

Earlier, in response to a regional fuel crisis, the government had implemented austerity measures across the country. As part of this, the PCB had announced that PSL 11 matches would be held behind closed doors. At the same time, to reduce public movement and travel, the tournament venues were limited to Karachi and Lahore.

However, franchise owners had opposed the decision to hold matches without spectators from the outset. They argued that the absence of fans diminished the true essence of the PSL and undermined the tournament’s identity.

Following those demands, permission has now been granted for spectators to attend the final, which is expected to add extra excitement to the tournament’s concluding match.
