David Warner’s captaincy ban overturned

Cricket Australia has lifted the ban on David Warner's leadership, allowing him to captain in franchise leagues after a six-year suspension. Warner, who has retired from international cricket, has fulfilled all criteria for the revocation of his ban.

Warner admitted to his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal during the 2018 Cape Town Test against South Africa, which led to a one-year ban and a lifetime ban from captaincy in Australian cricket.

In a recent interview, Warner expressed his desire to return to international cricket, though there remains uncertainty about whether he will indeed return or regain the captaincy of the national team. However, it is likely that he will lead the Sydney Thunder in the upcoming season.

Cricket Australia's CEO Nick Hockley stated, "I am pleased with the decision to review David Warner's ban. He will be considered for the captaincy this season."

In his application for the lifting of the ban, Warner referenced support from coach Andrew McDonald and captain Pat Cummins, as well as endorsement from New Zealand cricketer Kane Williamson.
